Tribology Society of India is committed to provide a common forum for technologists, scientists and industrialists to meet and to foster the advancement of tribo-science  through its various activities. Though it organizes biennial National conferences, seminars and workshops at various locations on a periodic basis, a need was felt for further fostering of such  activities on a more active and regular basis through the formation of the local chapters of the society.  As India is a large country, and the local needs vary from region to region, it was perceived that local chapters  can effectively address their  requirements and further strengthen the national level efforts of the society. To meet this need local chapters were created at seven locations .
